Day 1: Drive to Awash National Park
After breakfast, you will drive to Awash National Park (225 Km from Addis). On the way, you will visit Lake Basaka and its aquatic birds. Up on arrival at the park, you will check into a lodge. In the late afternoon, you will do sightseeing at the Awash waterfalls and see the wild life. In the evening, you will have dinner, rest & spend the night there. Overnight stay in Genet Hotel, (Awash town)out of the park.
Day 2: Drive to Langano
After breakfast, you will be driven to Bishangari, Langano (311Km from Awash NP), where on your way make a stop on Awash River and Lake Ziway to visit aquatic birds. Lake Ziway, the shallowest lake in the Rift Valley chain of lakes which depth 7m. Its extensive aquatic vegetation attracts a variety of water birds. Commonly seen and easily identified are; Saddle-billed stork, greater jacana, African fish eagle, darter, herons, darters and Wood hoope.
You will stop for lunch at Ziway. Your arrival in Langano will be late afternoon where you will check into a hotel. Later, you can explore the riverine forest and adjacent lake for birds such as Yellow-Fronted Parrot, White Cheeked Turaco, Orange-bellied Parrot, African Paradise Flycatcher, Bare-faced Go-Away Bird, African Fish-eagle, Cuckoo Shrikes, Kingfishers, Weavers and water birds including Egrets, Herons, Cormorants, Gulls, Geese, Ducks and Shanks. In the evening, you will get back to the lodge and you will have dinner and stay the night in the lodge. Overnight stay in Borati Lodge.
Day 3: Excursion to Lepis Forest
After breakfast, you will drive to Lepis Forest (50 Km from Langano, the forest is most pristine and secluded natural wonders, with breathtaking and stunning views, endemic bird and wildlife species, and a natural waterfall. Make Hiking in the forest to visit different wildlife including; leopards, warthogs, bushbuck, mountain nyala, colobus monkeys, thick-billed ravens, African white backed vultures, and blue-breasted bee-eaters). You will have a lunch in the bush.
Today during your visit in Lepis forest you can make visit to Arsi Oromo Village. Late in the afternoon you will drive back Langano. You will arrive in Langano late in the afternoon. Dinner will be at the resort. Overnight stay in Borati Lodge.
Day 4: Drive to Awassa
You will have breakfast & drive to Awassa (75Km from Langano). On the way you will also visit Abiatta-Shala National Park. Lake Shala is a very deep crater lake (over 260 meters deep!) and Lake Abiatta is a soda lake, which attracts thousands of flamingos.
You will be arriving in Awassa early in the afternoon and check into a hotel. Later, you can walk along the lake shore for nice evening sunset and aquatic birds.
Lake Awassa with the mudflats, mixed Acacia woodland and grassland and open expanses of the lakes afforded you some good birding. Highlights were large numbers of waterfowl including Tufted and White-backed Ducks and African Pygmy-Goose, a gorgeous male Pallid Harrier, Black-crowned Crane, the stunning Blue-breasted Bee-eater, the endemic Banded Barbet, the highly sought-after Spotted Creeper, Ethiopian Swallow, Thick-billed Raven Pygmy Goose, Malachite and Pied kingfisher, Hottentot Teal, Egyptian goose, Hammer Kob Black Crake, African Fish-eagle, Hadda Ibis, Purple Heron, Common Sandpiper, Rueppell’s Weaver, and numbers of Storks. Overnight stay in Oasis International Hotel.
Day 5:Drive to Arab Minch through Wolayta Sodo
In the morning after breakfast, you will visit the scenic morning Fish market in Awassa. Then you will drive to Arba Minch (280 Km from Awassa). On the way you will visit Senkelle Wildlife Sanctuary (90 Km from Awassa, well-known for endemic and endangered subspecies of Swayne’s Hartebeest other different animals and bird species).Continue your drive to Arab Minch, again on the way visit the Alaba tribal village and you will stop for lunch at Wolayta (154 Km from Awassa).
You will be arriving in Arba Minch late afternoon and check into a lodge. You will have dinner and spend the night at the lodge. Overnight stay in Bekelle Molla Hotel.
Day 6: Visit Nech Sar National Park and drive to Dorze
In the morning, after breakfast you will take a boat ride on Lake Chamo and visit to huge crocodiles, hippos, a variety of birdlife and you will also visit to the nearby Nech Sar National Park (a natural habitat for many wild animals: Zebra, Gazelle, & Antelope etc.). You will have lunch break at Arba Minch.
After a brief break, you will continue driving to Dorze (50 Km from Arba Minch) and visit to the Dorze village (famous for their bee hive shaped houses, weaving styles and their lifestyle). In the evening you will have dinner at the lodge and stay the night there. Overnight stay in Bekelle Molla Hotel.
Day 7: Drive back to Addis Ababa via Tiya and Melka-Kuntare
After breakfast, you will be driving to Addis Ababa (510 Km from Addis Abeba). On your way back to Addis Ababa via an alternative route through Ziway-Butajira, the green and fertile are of the Gurage people you can visit UNESCO registered the 600 – 800 years old Tiya stelae field and the interesting Melka-Kunture archeological site where thousands of Stone Age tools are found. There is also a small but interesting museum.
You will arrive in Addis Ababa late afternoon where you will do some shopping for souvenirs. Finally you will be taken to a farewell dinner depending on your scheduled flight; you will be transferred out to Bole International Airport for return flight back home.
